Description
The Rothko Room was mostly recorded in 1992 in a studio off the Euston Road in London. It was made when everything was switching from analog to digital but the album was actually recorded on a 24 track tape machine. I still rather like that way of doing things. This is a mix of the old and the new though. On “Camera’s Eye” for example, we used a James Brown drum loop for the rhythm section. The bonus track “Diamond Mining” was recorded with producer Peter Moss in Geoff Calvert’s studio in Stamford Hill. It was the one and only single I made with my band which, at the time was called “Radio 5” …this was before the BBC actually introduced a Radio 5, the idea being that we had an alternative voice. We renamed the band “Between Two Rives” a couple of years later.
